Paint Maintenance

Paint

General Information
With the increased demand in using custom colors and the need for touch-ups, care should be taken to use good painting practices. If improperly done, touch-up could result in color or texture differences.

It is not practical to touch-up areas if there is an excessive amount of touch-up needed. Touch-up is designated where the coating has minor marks or smudges on recently painted surfaces.

The following are some suggestions for paint touch-ups...

  • It is important to use the same batch of paint used on the original application. It is good practice to retain a small portion of each batch or custom color for this purpose.

  • Use the same type applicator and procedure that was used on the original application to avoid differences in texture. If brushed, use a brush and finish stroke in the same direction as the original application. If paint was sprayed - use a small sprayer for touch-up. If original paint was rolled, use a roller.

  • To minimize spotty appearance avoid excessive feathering into the painted areas around the touch-up area. The higher the film builds up in the original coating, the better the touch-up result.

  • Other conditions can affect the quality of a touch-up, such as;
    • Substantial differences in temperature and/or humidity at time of original application and at the time of the touch-up.
    • Aging of the original film.
    • Dirt accumulation on the painted surface, particularly in the vicinity of heating and air conditioning vents.
    • Painting or touching up if air or surface temperature is below 50°.

Care & Cleaning
  • Before washing, dust or vacuum walls to remove loose soil.

  • Use one bucket for washing solution and one for rinsing, and a large sponge for each bucket.

  • Start washing at the bottom and work up, so cleaning solution does not run down the dirty wall and cause streaks that are hard to remove.

  • Rub gently to avoid damage to paint.

  • Wash and rinse one area; then do the next overlapping slightly with the previous area.

  • After doing several areas, dry off excess moisture with soft absorbent cloths or towels.
