Cabinets Maintenance
General Information
Your cabinets are made from real wood. Genuine wood will differ from piece to piece, cabinet to cabinet, and stain lot to stain lot. No two pieces will be exactly alike, each being an original creation of nature. A general color tone will be achieved, but there will be variations of color and wood grain with each kitchen.
Care & Cleaning
- For Normal Cleaning
Lemon oil cleaners like Old English© or Formby's Lemon Oil© are excellent wood cleaning products. Use several times a year on your wood cabinets. Spray furniture polishes are also acceptable but will produce a waxy build up.
- For Tougher Cleaning Problems
To remove sticky, greasy, dirty spots, use a soft cloth with mild detergent and water to wash the area. Rinse the cloth and wipe to remove the remaining soap residue. Dry cabinets thoroughly with a clean dry cloth. Do not allow water to remain on cabinets for prolonged periods of time.
- Touch Ups
Soft colored putties and fill sticks can be used to fill knicks, scratches and dents on your cabinets. Minwax Blend-Fil© pencils are one of the best color matches.
Laminated Cabinets
General Information
Laminates will resist scratching but not prevent it. With use, damage may occur. Use your knives and other sharp implements on a chopping board rather than on the cabinets or countertops. Never hammer on the cabinets or countertops with hard objects. Heavy impacts caused by falling dishes or utensils can cause damage to the surface. Heat or hot objects may also cause damage.
Care & Cleaning
- For Normal Cleaning
Laminated cabinets can be cleaned with detergent and warm water solution. Rinse with a cloth or sponge dampened with clean water. Using a dry cloth or paper towel to wipe the surface dry prevents streaking. Most all-purpose household cleaners may also be used; read the label to be sure it can be used on that surface and follow directions exactly.
