Sprinkler Systems Maintenance
Sprinkler Systems
General Information
A sprinkler system has been required by the township to be installed in your home. Your sprinkler system is a water only system. The NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency) requires that sprinkler heads be replaced every 20 years. The sprinkler heads in the basement and the first floor are located on the ceiling. The sprinkler heads on the second floor will be located on an inside wall.
The pressure in your system should not rise above 75 - 100 PSI. Increases in pressure are generally caused by a rise in the pressure from the street. If there is a pressure surge, call THP or a certified sprinkler contractor for help on correctly fixing the pressure.
Each sprinkler head operates independently. They are set off by temperature - not smoke. If one head goes off the other heads will not automatically go off. If a sprinkler head is activated the alarm will sound. Once a sprinkler head has gone off, it must be replaced. Contact THP or a certified sprinkler contractor for replacement.
Care & Cleaning
There is no maintenance required for your system unless a sprinkler head is activated. In that case you should have your sprinkler company check the system.
Never paint your sprinkler heads. This will cause the system to fail.
A certified sprinkler contractor should inspect all systems each year.
